Young Australian in the UK Struggling with Europe Travel
My Travel Story
I came here for the proximity to Europe so I could travel and to experience a different way of life. This move was completely self-funded, however with the cost of living crisis as well as the high cost of living in London, I have used up all my savings simply setting up a life here and no longer have the funds to actually travel through Europe.
I am fervently saving, however my current visa only lasts for one more year and I fear that by the time I save enough to do any travel, it will be time to go home and I will have lost my life savings without achieving even half of what I set out to do. It's so hard watching friends take regular trips when I'm scrimping on my weekly groceries to save as much as possible - I didn't move halfway across the world to never leave my flat because I'm struggling financially.
My list of countries to travel to include Greece, Croatia, Spain, Portugal and Turkey - but the most important country on my travel list is Italy. My mother's parents immigrated to Australia from Calabria, Italy and I've always wanted to travel through Italy to get in touch with my roots. I've never been to Calabria and I've been told by my family that the houses my grandparents grew up in are still there so I would love the opportunity to go and find them.
Receiving this money would allow me the personal growth and life experience I need as a young person by travelling to beautiful places and meeting incredible people. I'm incredibly blessed to be from Australia but once I go home, European travel means very expensive flights and travel times of over 24 hours so it's in my best interest to get as much European travel accomplished while I am based in the UK. I truly appreciate any help I receive and would be eternally grateful for being given an opportunity to travel to the places I had hoped to go.
