Food self-sufficiency, a route to economic security
My Travel Story
Few problems are as basic and broad in the complex web of worldwide problems as the quest of food sufficiency. It is the foundation of stability, well-being, and advancement, going beyond simple nutrition. Yet hunger still exists in our contemporary society, looming large over millions of lives. This dilemma has to be addressed right now because no country can advance, flourish, or live in peace without food security.
HOW ONE PERSON CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Feeling little and unimportant in the face of the enormousness of the universe is common. But history has often demonstrated the ability of one person to start a revolution of right-action, motivate others to do the same and influence the destiny of entire countries and the world. The purpose of the goal matters more than its size.
No matter how small, every one of us has the ability to change the world. Whether by deeds of generosity, lobbying, or creativity, everyone of us can advance society. Real change is born, one little step at a time, by the combined efforts of individuals.
ECONOMIC STABILITY REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF AGRICULTURE POLICY
There has never been more need for solid agriculture policy at a time of volatility and uncertainty. The choices taken by politicians affect not only their own countries but also those of their neighboring countries and continents, ranging from trade agreements to environmental laws, from subsidies to market dynamics.
Nevertheless, short-term thinking and limited interests too frequently mold agricultural policy, resulting in inefficiency, inequality, and environmental damage. Through giving people a thorough grasp of agricultural policy, we enable them to actively participate in the legislative process and promote laws that give farmers, consumers, and the environment equal priority.
WHY EDUCATION & RIGHT ACTION AROUND AGRICULTURAL POLICY CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Education & right action are the pathways to significant changes in agriculture policy. Building a thorough awareness of the intricacies of our food systems—from farm to fork—is the first step. It calls for an ethical and scientifically sound dedication to evidence-based decision-making.
It also requires a readiness to oppose established interests, question the status quo, and support laws that advance the welfare of the people. We provide the groundwork for real change by giving people the information and abilities to participate in educated discussion and advocacy.
WHY IS THIS EXPERIENCE VALUABLE FOR EVERYONE?
The quest of agricultural self-sufficiency provides a route to sustainability, equality, and resilience in a world growing more complicated and linked. The world needs not only to be fed, but also, through food production, communities will find greater economic opportunity and support environmental preservation.
But one cannot travel this road alone. It calls on the combined efforts of people, communities, and countries cooperating and standing together. Because ultimately the essence of our humanity is at jeopardy, not simply our existence.
REASONS BEYOND FOOD SUFFICIENCY
Fundamentally, the goal of food sufficiency goes beyond merely “filling stomachs”. It includes guarantees for health and dignity of every person on the globe. It's about making the world where no one goes to bed hungry, where every child has access to wholesome food, and where food is regarded as a basic human right rather than a commodity to be purchased and sold.
WHY SUPPORTING MY TRIP WILL BENEFIT NOT JUST ONE AREA OF THE WORLD
Supporting my agricultural self-sufficiency tour throughout Europe is an investment in a vision of a better future for everyone, not just in the adventure of one individual. My background knowledge in farming by growing up in a small village at the base of Mt. Olympus in Greece, my education in Hotel & Food Management from Boston University, my working experience in restaurants, supermarkets and manufacturing and packaging businesses and finally through my activism and political involvement and travels to the EU Parliament in Brussels have given me insights that can help local communities as well as guide worldwide initiatives to tackle the urgent issues of economic growth, environmental sustainability, and food security.
Since I have spent more than 14 years researching and influencing agriculture policy, this initiative excites me. I was part of the delegation that changed EU policy so that subsidies for organic farmers in Greece will not be delayed for more than 6 months, a big win by any standards. I have witnessed personally the enormous influence that well-informed policymaking can have on people's lives everywhere and I assure you policy making is at the root of any problem and the beginning to any solution.
I firmly believe that by disseminating the information and understanding I have acquired along the way, we may spark constructive change on a worldwide basis.
I picked my travel places throughout Europe because I understand that European policies frequently set the standard for the rest of the globe. Through research of the creative agricultural and food systems implemented by European countries, I want to find lessons and best practices that may be used in many different settings worldwide.
HELP ME HELP FARMERS AND THE WORLD
In conclusion, the journey towards agricultural self-sufficiency is not just a personal quest; it is a collective endeavor with profound implications for the future of humanity. By supporting initiatives that promote food sufficiency, the empowerment of individuals, and the advancement of agricultural policy knowledge, we can build a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable world for generations to come.
It's up to us to create a more robust, just, and sustainable society for coming generations by backing programs that encourage food sufficiency, empower people, and expand our understanding of agricultural policy.
