Rehabilitation through Reading: Literacy and Mental Illness
My Travel Story
I am a recent Columbia University graduate interested in the healing effects of reading. In particular, I would like to examine the literature as a therapeutic means to alleviate or treat mental illness. My project is in part research-based (working alongside philosophy and literature professors at Ecole Normale Superieure) and application based (working alongside clinicians and patients in mental health facilities). My intention is that my research will inform the developing field of Bibliotherapy (therapy through reading) to improve mental health in historically underpriviledged communities.
Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have further questions about the specifics of my research, please feel free to contact me at stephgoldstein613@gmail.com.
