My Travel Story

by: Abby Yerkes Start Date: May 5, 2018 - End Date: Sep 1, 2018
I am so excited for this opportunity to spend 10 months in Argentina for Word of Life's Bilingual Bible Program! Ever since I was a kid, God has given me a deeper love for Hispanic culture and I believe He is calling me into full time ministry in a Spanish speaking country. There is just one small problem: my Spanish is very, very limited. By taking part in the Bilingual Bible Program I will quickly become fluent while establishing a solid Biblical foundation along with plenty of cross cultural ministry experience. As I prepare to leave this Fall, please prayerfullly consider supporting me financially, as Argentina can be a costly place to travel to. But most importantly, I ask that you simply pray for me as I go, that I would adjust quickly to the language and culture and that God would continue to work in and through me. Thank you!

    76 DAYS!
Another step in the process towards Argentina has been completed! My new passport came last week! It's crazy to think that in just 76 days I will be boarding a plane, heading towards this new and slightly terrifying (but also exciting) adventure. I am excited to go, but honestly, I am also pretty nervous about being in another country for ten months with absolutely no one that I know....Not to mention having to become fluent in Spanish (both conversationally & academically) within 6 months...but I know God is sending me there for a reason and that He is going to grow me in ways I can't even imagine. Please continue to pray for me as I prepare for this big change, especially as I work through the Visa process over the next couple weeks as the timing of applying for it is very specific! Gracias!

    Slightly overwhelmed....but beyond thankful.
Getting a new passport, finishing up paperwork, and trying to figure out how in the world I'm going to move to another country with just a suitcase... it's a little overwhelming at times.... but can I just say how excited I am for the opportunity to not only get an education, but to do so cross culturally, learn the language fluently, AND get hands on ministry experience at the same time!? It almost doesn't feel real. Is this actually happening??? However, I am even more excited and thankful for the 5 who have partnered with me on this journey! Learning to let others come alongside and help me is something I am having to learn through all of this, and I am definitely seeing that without yall, I couldn't do this! So let me just leave it at GRACIAS! <3
