As I enter my junior year at the University of Connecticut, I was selected for a special program in the heart of our nation. The Honors Congressional Internship Program in Washington D.C. will allow me to work as a full-time Congressional intern for one of the senators or representatives for Connecticut. Interns participate in staff meetings, attend committee meetings, research and write reports, and visit other offices on Capitol Hill. Interns also assist with your office’s constituent services including helping manage telephone and mail correspondence between your congressperson and his/her constituents, as well as leading constituent tours of the U.S. Capitol Building. It is a huge honor to be accepted to such a program and to have the opportunity to work in D.C. This is something I have been training for my whole life. I started campaign work when I was fourteen, eventually becoming the social media manager for the Ellington Democratic Town Committee (EDTC). From there, I ran for office in the town of Ellington for the Board of Selectmen. I went on to be the deputy treasurer for the EDTC, becoming a state delegate along with that position. I had the great opportunity to go to D.C. for the inauguration of President Joe Biden, having my photos from the event published in the news. I spent the summer of 2022 working as an intern in Senator Blumenthal's office, learning even more about public policy and politics. I've been studying political science at UConn for a little over two years now, and recently picked up a minor in public policy. Politics is my passion, to say the least. I grew up watching the news with my dad and going with my mom to vote for every single election. The opportunity to study politics in D.C. would be life-changing and prepare me for a future in the field. Thank you all so much for even considering donating, you are truly helping pursue this small-town girl's big dreams.
