My Travel Story

I will be volunteering in Kenya Nairobi for 5 weeks. This project is very meaningful to me because I believe every child has the right to a safe education.
The aim of the Kindergarten project in Kenya is to provide much-needed assistance in primary schools. I will be teaching basic English and maths, help with general running of the school, such as cooking, cleaning, serving breakfast and lunch, washing dishes, caring for children and babies, and at times picking grain for food preparation.
I am passionate about this project because I believe this is a once in a life time chance to make a difference. Teaching abroad will give me the opportunity to explore a new culture and gain experience working with children, while educating the next generation.
I have previously volunteered in local schools and communities and have stayed in orphanages in Thailand and Vietnam. I have chosen to go to Kenya because Kenyan public education is rife with inadequate facilities, insufficient and often poorly trained teachers, overcrowded classrooms and poor results. One quarter of Kenya’s population has no education. 1.5 million school aged children in Kenya do not attend school at all due to poverty.
Thank you so much for your donation.
