Hello!

We are Chloe and Anthony, a young couple from Quebec, Canada, with an exciting and meaningful journey ahead. We are planning a trip around the Mediterranean Sea coast, from the picturesque Greek islands to the vibrant city of Tangier in Morocco. This journey is not just a chance to visit our families overseas (Chloe's family is historically from Greece, and Athony's parents are curently working in Morocco). But also a unique opportunity to conduct crucial research and contribute to our academic and professional growth.

Who We Are ?
As dedicated students of Urban Design at UQAM in Montreal, we are committed to exploring and understanding the relationship between urban environments and their coastlines. Chloe has family roots in Greece, and Anthony’s parents are currently working in Tangier, giving us a unique chance to connect our personal lives with our academic pursuits.

Our Mission
We have taken a gap semester to embark on this journey, focusing on studying Mediterranean cities. Our research will delve into the different urban shapes, the relationship between these cities and their coastlines, and how they are adapting to climate change and rising sea levels. This research is essential for our master’s theses and will significantly influence our future careers in urban design and sustainability.

Why This Destination?
The Mediterranean region is a rich tapestry of history, culture, and urban diversity. From the ancient cities of Greece to the bustling streets of Tangier, each location provides invaluable insights into urban resilience and cultural adaptation. This region is a living laboratory where we can learn firsthand how cities are confronting and adapting to environmental challenges.

Why We Need Your Support
  • Impact on Education and Career: Your contribution will directly support our academic goals. By funding our travel, you are enabling us to gather valuable field research that will shape our master’s theses and enhance our understanding of sustainable urban design. This experience will better equip us to make a positive impact in our future careers.
  • Community Contribution: Our findings will not only benefit our academic community but also the local communities we study. We aim to provide actionable insights and recommendations on urban resilience and sustainability, which can aid urban planners and policymakers in these regions.
  • Passion for the Project: We are deeply passionate about urban design and sustainability. This project allows us to merge our academic interests with our personal connections in Greece and Morocco, making it a truly meaningful and impactful endeavor.
  • Cultural Exchange and Learning: We plan to immerse ourselves in the local cultures, staying with residents and hostels. This approach minimizes our travel costs and carbon footprint while fostering genuine connections and learning from the people we meet. Also from our backpackers experience, in hostels you always end up in unexpected dventures with new travel buddies !
We also would like to do some volunteer work in the Balkans, via the  WOOFING system.
  • Sustainable Travel: To minimize our carbon footprint, we will travel by boat, train, bus, and hitchhike in remote locations, avoiding planes as much as possible. This sustainable approach to travel aligns with our commitment to environmental responsibility.
How You Can Help
We need your support to cover essential costs such as accommodation, food, admissions to cultural sites, research materials, etc. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to realizing this dream and making a meaningful impact on our field and the communities we study. <3
