My Travel Story

Hello everyone! My name is Bianca, I'm 20 years old, and languages have always been a passion of mine. After some serious research and self-exploration, I figured out a way to channel my love for language and linguistics through a career in speech pathology!

I will be heading to the Dominican Republic for 2 weeks for a bilingual, immersive volunteering trip to assist speech pathology staff in schools. I have spent many years learning Spanish due to my love for the language and personal identity as an Afro-Latina. Since becoming a certified bilingual speech pathologist is also my end goal, there would be no better way to supplement my education than by exposing myself to the career in my second language, especially in a country in which I have roots. I’m applying for this opportunity because I want to be able to become the best version of myself. Being that this trip will be able to access different parts of my life and myself as a person, I think it will be extremely beneficial to me to go forth with it, both for my own personal growth and for the wellbeing of the people that I will be serving within it. I want to be someone who truly has a passion for their career, and my love for the components within it will transfer directly to the variety of individuals that I will serve.

As a junior in college, I am quickly nearing the end of my degree, and university expenses are on the rise. Although I will be working as hard as I can and using my own savings towards the trip, I could really use some help. Donations of any size will be greatly appreciated!
