My Travel Story

Starting in the spring of 2026, I hope to study abroad in North Ryde, Australia, to further my education in psychology and pursue my dream of becoming a therapist. As a woman who grew up in a single-income household of four, I have faced financial limitations that have sometimes restricted my opportunities. However, these challenges have only strengthened my determination to achieve my goals.

Studying in Australia will not only deepen my academic knowledge, but also immerse me in a new culture and environment. I am passionate about traveling, and I believe that experiencing life in a different country will be invaluable for both my personal growth and my future career. Living with a host family will allow me to become part of a community that is different from my own, giving me firsthand insight into their ways of life.

Mental health is not a one-size-fits-all field. It requires years of practice, research, and—most importantly—an understanding of different cultures and backgrounds. To truly help others as a therapist, I must broaden my worldview and learn from people whose experiences differ from mine. This study abroad experience will give me the tools to do just that.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to pursue higher education and to potentially embark on this journey to Australia. However, as I am funding my college degree independently, affording a semester abroad is a significant challenge. Receiving support to study in Australia would not only help me achieve my academic and professional goals, but also enable me to gain the cultural competence necessary to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
