My Travel Story

by: Lucille Wade Fikes Start Date: Mar 31, 2024 - End Date: Mar 30, 2025
Understanding my cultural roots is essential as it will provides me with a sense of belonging and identity. By delving into my cultural background, I can develop a deeper connection to their heritage, traditions, and values of my family beyond my immediate family. This knowledge will form a stronger sense of self-awareness and appreciation for where they come from and how I came to be the person I am. Exploring my cultural roots will  foster a greater respect for diversity and inclusivity, as I gain insights into the histories and experiences of others that have endured more than me, I understand that the life I am living at this moment is not purely due to my endevours but others before me. I want to understand personally what they endured that give this life I know live there  growth and development to be found in knowing.  By knowing where the roots of how my Dad became my Dad and how my Mom the Mom made for me gave me customs, beliefs, and practices of their ancestors and how that created me at this time and this place and I'm so curious about what insights drove their  behaviors, perspectives, and choices. This will increase my self-awareness can lead to personal reflection and growth, and allow me to live me authentically. We are losing our elders to age and losing valuable heritage knowledge and wisdom. I need to visit my elder members of my family to know all the branches of my family that I am not aware of so as not to lose the stories, traditions, and experiences that are passed down through generations. When they pass away that knowledge is lost and may never adequately documented or shared with our younger generations. It's important for us to cherish the wisdom of our elders, listen to their stories, and actively engage with them to ensure that our heritage knowledge is preserved and passed on I don't want to lose my cultural heritage. I want to find, explore and understand what roads my family has travelled to bring me to be the person I am and I want to share what my family gave to time and history with others.
