My Travel Story
WHO am I?
I am a 62 year old man with an untamed desire for the unknown and
unexpected adventures in life.
I worked for the SABC as a cameraman in the eighties and completed a course in photography at the Pretoria Technical College. I was employed by John Deere (SA) for 8 years. I have 10 years experience the insurance business, first in sales and then in management, and thereafter took up a sales position with a medium sized used car dealership for 7 years. I have been pursuing and managed my own business enterprises for the past 12+ years. During this time I undertook various traveling expeditions throughout South Africa.
I believe it is now time for a new chapter in my life.
The mission: A full time overland expedition of Southern Africa.
THE PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The purpose of the project is simply exploring Southern Africa with a side-by-side Utv Camper, for documentary purposes. A journey to pursue images, videos, sounds and words. Exploring and learning about rural cultures, their food and habits. Meeting with local kings and traditional leaders. Hunting for unknown and hidden treasures. Finding a way to travel slower and closer to ancient rhythms. A kind of neo-nomadism. A solitary life, living and traveling in a side-by-side Utv. A combination of 4x4 adventures, overland motorbiking, and 'van life' adventures, with the exception that I intend to travel and live in a side-by-side Utv Camper - to my knowledge a worldwide first.
Through social media endeavor to increase tourism in rural areas, thereby contributing to job creation in these areas, and stimulate the local economy.
