My Travel Story

by: Jayva Blount Start Date: Dec 14, 2019 - End Date: Jun 27, 2020
Hi! My name is Jayva Blount and I am a sophomore honors Finance and International Business double major at Howard University. I first got the travel bug over the past spring break, when I was able to travel to Singapore with the School of Business Executive Leadership Honors Program for our semiannual business retreats. During these retreats, we have the opportunity to travel to different cities and meet and network with various corporate sponsors of our program. These companies include Goldman Sachs, American Airlines and KPMG among many others.  Living up to Howard University's motto "In Truth and Service", we took time to serve around Singapore. During this week, I became increasingly fascinated learning about Singaporean Culture and understanding the differences & similarities between Singapore and the United States. Following this week in Singapore, I knew that I wanted to spend my career travelling the world continuing to learn about the millions of cultures across the globe.

This past semester, I decided to take a leap and apply to study abroad. I have been accepted into the Business and Culture in English & Spanish Language program with International Studies Abroad. I will be studying at the Adolfo Ibañez University in Viña Del Mar, Chile learning about business in Latin America. Adolfo Ibanez University is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and is one of the leading universities in the country. Following the completion of my program at AIU, I will receive a certification in Latin American Studies with a focus in Business from the University.

As a global citizen in training, it is important that I take an active role in the communities I will be living and learning in. This is why I decided to add service learning to my study abroad experience. Throughout my time abroad, I will be serving with a local organization in community development, family and youth development, or education. Through serving, I expect to have a better understanding of the social climate in Chile and be able to be an informed advocate for the country throughout my career in International Business.

I cannot wait to learn and serve in this beautiful country. But I need some help getting there! Your donations will help fund my travel, the tuition of the program including the service learning portion, and transportation and exploration within my new city. Help me have an unforgettable experience next semester!
