My Travel Story

by: Nicky Shaw Start Date: Oct 6, 2016 - End Date: Feb 2, 2017
I am 26 years old and for the past few years I have been feeling this pull to leave my comfort zone and travel to a different continent.

I have recently been given the nudge I need to pursue my passion and to travel to a different country. When you least expect it, God places people in your life for a reason. It may not be clear to you in the beginning, but when you realise the magnitude of his idea's and plans then you are really blown away. This happened to me recently and I had no idea what was going on in the beginning haha. What a crazy sense of humour He has :-) For the past 8 years I have lived and worked in game reserves in South Africa. To work in the middle of no where requires passion and a love for nature, it is definitely not done for monetary purposes.

I think for many of us, the thought of travelling is quite daunting, but for me its always been about the finances, it has never been something that I have been able to seriously consider doing because of this.
Recently I have felt that it is the right time for me to spread my wings a bit further and see the world, learn about new cutures and improve my knowledge and experience in life basically :-)

Asking for help is never an easy thing to do, and asking for monetary help really humbles a person. However, now is my time and I have to stand up straight and proud and admit that I do need help to finally make my dreams come true.

I have chosen to travel to the US, as I belive the possibilities there and the things that I can learn are endless (as long as one is willing to work hard) Being in hospitality for so long has taught me how to work long hours and still have a smile on your face at the end of the day. Working with people is not something you can fake, you either have it in you or you dont, and for me, being with people makes me happy :-) To be able to hear people's life stories is a pretty incredible experience. You get to meet people from all walks of life and it is a very humbling experience.

I would ultimately love to have the opportunity to work in a camp, or at least in a place with many people, where I can interact with others so we can ultimately learn from one another to better ourselves.
I do think this would help me to come back to SA with more passion, an open heart and an even more open mindset to others and their cultures and beliefs.

I have realised that is doesnt matter if you are 18, 26 or 40, you have to follow your dreams. You are never to old to continue learning and improving youself, and you are DEFENITELY never to old to follow your passion, dreams & goals :-)

To have someone donate towards my trip would mean the absolute world to me. I am never usually lost for words, but I dont think I could explain from the bottom of my heart how much I would appreciate.

Much Love,

Nicky xxx
