My Travel Story

by: Abul Jahan Start Date: Aug 13, 2017 - End Date: Aug 12, 2018
My name is Abul Jahan and i am raising funds for Fiji.

Last year june 2016 i was in Fiji for 3 weeks and have seen some of the worst poverty you can ever imagine. The lack of education and opportunities to build or make something of yourself is really slim. This year i have decided to go back and make a change.

My mission is to build a place where local people can come and learn a skill that will improve their lives and have the opportunity to succeed.

As I prepare for this challenge I am looking to raise funds, through sponsorship, to cover the cost of vital building materials, equipment and resources for communities and schools, which will ensure the project makes a sustainable difference.

I am fundraising to help the local community
the work I'll be doing ranges from building rain water catchment tanks for villages, teaching English face to face and restoring buildings and equipments for schools.

Why Fiji ?
A lot of people view fiji as a tropical oasis but in reality over ⅓ of the fijian population live in poverty. Fijian children grow up in a world of limited education with a sever lack of opportunity. Only 50% of children have access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation.

My Role
During my time in Fiji I will be living with a local family in the heart of a tribal village . I will have a number of responsibilities but some of them will include:
-Implementing teaching methods as well as offering one-to-one english lessons to children and young adults in the community
- Leading extracurricular activities such as art, music and sports coaching
-Help build important facilities within the village

Where Your Donations Will Go
-Funding for educational and sport equipment
-Apprenticeship scheme to provide access to skills training for young Fijian adults
-Support building projects
-30% of donations will go towards maintenance and sustainability of these communities in future
