My Travel Story
My name is Josef, and I'm here to propose a trip me and my two buddies (Tom and John) would like to take. The three of us have been close since first grade, and now I am not afraid to call them my brothers. A staple of our friendship is a shared love of travel and exploration, something that we could readily exercise growing up in Chicago. Before long, however, we were not satisfied with just exploring our city, and we wanted to venture into other states, and ultimately, other countries.
With that said, it is time to develop an idea we have been talking about for too long. Currently, all of us attend different Universities (U. of Iowa, Marquette U., and Coastal Carolina U.) and are pushing into the mature world, so we believe this is a good time to submit our plan to travel through Europe in the summer of 2017.
Essentially, we plan to backpack through western Europe; flying into Rome, and departing from Amsterdam. The goal is to journey through eight countries, stopping in as many cities as we can along the way. This will not be a luxurious trip, by which I mean we will be staying in hostels, possibly sleeping in our hammocks outside, and utilizing public transit to navigate Europe cheaply. Our trip itinerary is very loose, and the time we spend in each city will be decided along the way.
The biggest inherent cost of our trip is the plane travel there and back, which is the primary fund-raising goal for this campaign. This cost will be about $450-$550 per person per flight for us. Besides that, we have a reserve of money from savings and jobs to use whilst traveling between countries, and plan to generate more on school breaks and through part-times. Ideally, we would like to take this trip when fresh out of class (around late May) and continue it as long as possible with our available funds (mid-late June, even early July). In consideration, our GoFundMe is structured to try and meet that time frame so we schedule more tangible dates for everything.
This trip has been in basic conception for a long time, and it would mean a lot to be able to accomplish the biggest independent plan we have ever wanted to create. All three of us love the idea of traveling, and this trip would be leaps and bounds from exploring the Midwest.
As a personal promise we have agreed on, we feel the best way to show our thanks to donors is to consistently update our trip through pictures and videos, posting on a blog or Youtube page, which we will set up and provide access to as our planning progresses a little more.
