My Travel Story

Hello,
my name is Josephine and I’m 15 years old. I applied to a sailing program, which crosses the Atlantic on a sailboat together with 34 fellow students. School teachers and a small crew compliment the group. The program lasts six months.

After a long selection process I finally got accepted! Woohoo!! I am so excited.

Besides learning for school I will learn to sail, to navigate and to do engine maintenance. We will sail to the Canaries and to Cape Verde where we will donate things we gathered ahead of time for an elementary school. Then we will sail across the Atlantic to the Lesser Antilles, there we will help rebuilding houses that were destroyed by hurricanes. After that we will visit the Azores and then sail back to Kiel.

I dreamed of this sailing trip since I was in 6th grade and now it will come true! There’s just one thing I could really use some help: Funding to cover some of the cost. You can help me by sharing some money. Even if it isn’t much, it will help me! And I will be grateful. You can choose any amount, or from one of the Donor Rewards.

Let me tell you more about the trip and myself.

I lived a long time in Germany, but now I live in the USA. My father is half American and half Swiss. My Mother is half German and half French and I have six siblings.

I like doing gymnastics in the garden, to play Akkordeon, to go sailing, to go skiing, to read and to make bracelets out of colored string.

I have had a dream for years. It was a sailing trip together with my younger brother. After we finish school we wanted to implement it. And when I found out that I could do a sail trip like that even during high school, I wanted to go on this sail ship immediately.

The project is from the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. It is called Classroom under Sails (German: Klassenzimmer unter Segeln) and it starts from Kiel.
