My Travel Story

by: Topollo Mohlotsane Start Date: Nov 2, 2020 - End Date: Jan 20, 2021
I am a renewable energy enthusiast currently pursuing my masters degree in Smart-grid technology. I recently got an internship offer from the United Nations as a green energy engineer in Denmark commencing January 2021. Having always dreamt of working for the UN, this offer was a dream-come-true :). As a green energy engineer, this opportunity will help develop my solar PV and microgrid design skills and a chance to, for the first time travel abroad...
I was born and raised in Lesotho and to our community, electricity access was and still is a luxury; a service only meant for the rich. This perspective has not only put a strain on the economic state of the country but has also affected the education sector.
With solar energy (my core focus) through microgrids, remote rural areas can easily be electrified and thus improving the livelihoods of the community and the surrounding areas. Seeing Africa electrified and children having the much needed education to develop them intellectually would sooth my heart!

I unfortunately do not have enough funds to fund my travelling, I have so far saved up enough for the VISA, and medical insurance. I still however need to cover my rent and flights to and from Copenhagen and hence this fundaraising campaign.
