I will be helping with extremely important work as a Building and Renovation volunteer. Lots of the buildings at the schools we working on are run down and in desperate need of renovation. The buildings are old and tired, with holes in the roofs, missing windows and potholes in the floors. Even classrooms that are structurally sound would benefit from being painted to create a better learning environment for the children. Lots of the schools are also having to make do without basic things, such as suitable kitchen areas, toilets, school halls, playgrounds, IT suites, security walls and enough classrooms. Without these facilities, many schools are struggling to manage with hugely overcrowded classrooms, long-drop toilet facilities and makeshift kitchen areas that are nowhere near big enough to prepare food for all the children.
