Cheyenne McLachlan

About Me

My name is Cheyenne McLachlan. I am a college student majoring in Wildlife Management and Zoology. I am also minoring in Geographic Information Sciences and becoming a certified Vet Tech. I have almost 6 years of hands-on animal care experience. I started as soon as I could, 14 years old, working at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, Montana. There I worked with grizzly bears, wolves, and birds of prey. At 16, I started at my local zoo, Utah's Hogle Zoo. There I currently work on our African Savanna with giraffes, zebras, and ostriches. I also recently started in our Rocky Shores area working with grizzly and polar bears, otters, seals, sea lions, and eagles. I have been at Hogle Zoo for almost 3 years now. During the summer, I moved to Boyd, Texas for an animal care internship at the International Exotic Animal Sanctuary. There I worked with 27 big cats of different species, 3 coatimundi, 30 bears of different species, a lemur, and a capybara. I've always wanted to be a keeper. But after my last internship, I realized I want to open my own exotic animal sanctuary. I love animals more than anything and I'm trying to gain as much experience as I possibly can before I start my sanctuary so I can make sure I'm ready!
