About Me

My name is Etty Rahmawati. I am from Indonesia. My hobbies are traveling, cooking, hiking, gardening and meeting new people. With a bachelor’s degree in education, my past roles have involved teaching play-based learning to high-school teachers who instruct English grammar to students in Java and working as an English language instructor for high school students and professionals in Bali for 5 years. Then in 2009, I moved to Borneo and started working for the Indonesian non-profit organization known as Alam Sehat Lestari, more commonly known as ASRI. ASRI – based in the remote town of Sukadana, West Kalimantan, links human health and environmental health by providing high-quality health care, alternative livelihoods and education in an effort to eliminate illegal logging and other pressures that threaten the nearby Gunung Palung National Park. At ASRI, I am the conservation education coordinator and my job involves traveling to regional schools and village communities to teach children, teenagers and adults about health, hygiene, ecology and beyond as well as the connection between human health and the environment. During my free time I volunteer with local children, aged 6-16 years, teaching reading & writing in both Bahasa Indonesia and English. In 2014, I received ‘Disney Conservation Hero’ - https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/disney-worldwide-conservation-fund-names-2014-conservation-heroes-see-more-at-httpsthewaltdisneycompany-comblogdisney-worldwide-conservation-fund-names-2014-conservation-heroessthash-wxq8lqab/
