About Me
I am Francesca Adrienne, the founder of the Seychelles Hydrospatial Observatory for Research and Exploration (SHORE), a non-profit research institute dedicated to advancing hydrospatial sciences for sustainable ocean development in Seychelles. With over two decades of experience in sustainable development, circular economy, blue economy, and project and program management, I have a comprehensive understanding of the intricate interplay between economic, social, and environmental aspects. I have successfully implemented sustainable development projects and policies, effectively addressing complex challenges and promoting holistic approaches. I am particularly passionate about the sustainable development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), focused on the unique challenges faced by SIDS and the importance of integrating their specific needs into the broader sustainable development agenda. I have actively contributed to raising awareness and understanding of their vulnerabilities and opportunities. A key area of focus within the SIDS agenda for me is SDG 14: Life Below Water. I have dedicated significant efforts to advocating for SDG 14 and its interconnectedness with the other SDGs. I have collaborated with stakeholders, including SIDS governments, international organizations, and civil society, to develop and implement projects and policies that address the specific challenges faced by SIDS in the context of SDG 14. I am an accomplished spatial scientist and leader with a diverse skill set spanning across Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Marine Spatial Planning, Ocean Governance, and Project Management. I have played a key role in establishing maritime boundaries and developing sustainable governance frameworks. I have also developed and managed an internationally funded project to identify how the artisanal fishery sector was contributing to derelict fishing gear in the Seychelles ocean and finding solutions to reuse nets from the fishing industry. In 2022, I co-founded Brikole Pty Ltd, a local startup in the waste management sector with the aim of revolutionizing waste management by introducing recycling in Seychelles. Brikole's mission is to provide a sustainable and long-term solution for exhausted fishing gear generated by the industrial tuna fishing industry. In conclusion, my experience in sustainable development, coupled with my dedication to the sustainable development of SIDS and advocacy for SDG 14, positions me as thought leader with the necessary knowledge, expertise, and commitment to effectively address the complex challenges faced by SIDS and promote their sustainable development within the broader framework of the SDGs.
