Jamal Griffith

About Me

Jamal is an island boy true to his Bajan roots. Growing up on the island, tourism was a main feature of his young life as he spent many weekends from as early as 6 years old, accompanying his father on island tours for guests of various south coast hotels, often being handed the mic and hosting the tours alongside his dad. From this early age, Jamal's love and appreciation of people and cultures developed and a passion for tourism and hospitality was sparked, which propelled him into this industry, which was to be his career path. Educational pursuits and early occupational endeavours were all geared towards a hospitality and tourism focus, with languages and business management being chosen as majors in college while taking on full time jobs to support his endeavours while juggling these with the responsibilities of being a young father. Despite, or maybe because of all these challenges, he went on to earn a degree in Management with a minor in Marketing facilitating his next career move to Sales and Marketing Manager of Bougainvillea Barbados and Sugar Bay Barbados where he made a name for himself in the industry alongside his dependable sales and marketing team. To date one of his biggest professional accomplishments is the successful introduction and marketing of Sugar Bay Barbados, and rebranding and reintroduction of Bougainvillea Barbados. These 2 Barbadian owned and operated boutique hotels have both experienced their best year for performance in 2018 with Revenue, ADR and Occupancy all surpassing their benchmark performance years. Jamal continues to make strides in the industry and believes that technology and appropriate application along with strategic leveraging of data are key to being able to compete and succeed in the industry. He currently operates the highly-rated bar and restaurant, Chattel Kitchen Bar House, where many of these strategies are employed in its daily operation, to enable the small operation to be competitive. A proud ambassador of his country, strong supporter of sustainable tourism and avid enthusiast of fitness and the outdoors, when he’s not talking or walking tourism, he's sure to be found somewhere in a gym, running on the streets or jumping into the sea at some south coast beach in Barbados.
