Hello everyone, My name is Joy Omulama, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to introduce myself to all of you. I am a passionate natural resource manager, deeply committed to restoring the health and vitality of our precious oceans. As someone living in the beautiful coastal region of Kenya, I have personally witnessed how our oceans play an integral role in enhancing our quality of life. Every year, numerous people visit our country to explore the wonders of the marine world, and it is this connection to the ocean that fuels my drive to make a difference. During my time as an intern while pursuing my BSC. Natural Resource Management, I had a profound realization that has since shaped my journey. It became evident to me that our oceans were suffering, and not enough was being done to address the pressing issues threatening their existence. This revelation weighed heavily on my heart, compelling me to take action. Upon completing my university education, I made a resolute decision to relocate to the coastal town of Mombasa without a job in line or any savings in the bank, where I could begin my research and actively contribute to the revival of our oceans. I am well aware that this undertaking may seem ambitious, even insane to some, but I firmly believe that it is my responsibility to support those already working toward conservation efforts. The current initiatives aimed at preserving the ocean are commendable, but they still represent a mere fraction of what is needed. Our oceans face the constant threat of pollution, with vast amounts of garbage being dumped into them each year. I refuse to stand idly by while this vital ecosystem suffers. Through my work, I aspire to bridge the gap between awareness and action. I am determined to collaborate with like-minded individuals and organizations, pushing for more comprehensive and sustainable solutions. My mission is to inspire change, bringing about a collective effort to protect and restore the oceans that sustain life on our planet.
