About Me

Hello! My name is Leona. I am 24, soon to be 25 in August of this year. Originally from Jamaica and now a resident of the US, I am an enthusiastic lover of soca music and Caribbean culture. I hold a diploma in Structural Engineering and a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering. My passion for engineering is matched by my dedication and hard work in my field. I have always been committed to pursuing my dreams and excelling in my chosen career. My journey with soca music began early in life, but it wasn’t until I was 14 that I truly fell in love with it. During a particularly challenging period in school, where I felt overwhelmed by academic pressures and extracurricular activities, soca music became my refuge. I vividly remember discovering the 2015 DJ Private Ryan Soca Starter mix, which became my solace during those tough times. The vibrant beats and uplifting rhythms provided an escape, lifting my spirits and helping me cope with panic attacks that I later recognized as such. Soca, often called the "soul of carnival," connected deeply with my soul, providing a cathartic release and immense joy. This bond has stayed with me ever since, and the songs from that mix still bring tears to my eyes, reminding me of my resilience and the joy that music can bring into one’s life. Earlier this year, I had the incredible opportunity to attend Jamaica Carnival in 2024. It was a transformative experience that deepened my love for Caribbean culture. Dancing in the streets, feeling the vibrant energy, and connecting with people from all walks of life was beyond words. This experience reaffirmed my desire to immerse myself in the cultural heart of the Caribbean, and Trinidad Carnival represents the pinnacle of that dream. Beyond my love for music, I am a dedicated and hardworking individual. Balancing multiple responsibilities has been a constant theme in my life, from my school days to my professional career. Despite these challenges, I have always found solace and motivation in soca music. It has been my anchor, helping me navigate life's ups and downs with a positive outlook. I believe in the power of community and the importance of sharing our passions and dreams. Through this campaign, I hope to not only fulfill my dream of experiencing Trinidad Carnival but also to inspire others to pursue their own dreams, no matter how big or small. I am grateful for the support and generosity of those who believe in this journey and look forward to sharing this incredible experience with you all. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my passion. Your support means the world to me, and I am excited to embark on this journey with your help. -Leona
