About Me

Howdy everyone! I'm Reece Huey, an NYU Class of 2026 student. I am majoring in Computer Science and Environmental Studies. I seek to combine the two by using AI and data analysis to better track and protect endangered species like rhinos, vultures, giraffes, and pangolins. I've always loved rhinos and giraffes since I was little, and I've been an ardent environmentalist ever since I was 13. I've helped out my Environmental Club with anti-plastic pollution and watering the school garden. I've also helped repair local nature trails and educate visitors to a salmon spawning site about how to protect these important fishes. At NYU, I've gone further by speaking with first- and second-graders about the water cycle and growing plants. I serve as the Vice President of Gardening for Community Agricultural Project by seeding and watering crops, adding fertilizer, and preparing the garden for nature. I serve NYU's Amnesty chapter through the Environmental Justice working group. There, I raise awareness of the connection between human rights and environmental issues. As a wildlife ecologist, I hope to combine my love for animals with my knack for computer programming. I plan to conduct field research in the lush savannas of Eastern and Southern Africa. There, I hope to use data analysis and AI to better understand endangered species' population dynamics and how severely they're threatened. I also hope to run my own wildlife orphanage/shelter, and empower children and teenagers to be a part of animal protection. No one should have to wait until they grow up just to make a difference. I've also been serious about highlighting lesser-appreciated species like vultures, pygmy hogs, sharks, and pangolins. Animals should not have to be big, mighty, or smart like elephants or dolphins just to receive basic dignity and kindness.
