About Me

Hello! My name is Selena Williams, and I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at Georgia State University. As a first-generation college student, I’ve faced many challenges, but education has always been a central part of my life. I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Central Florida in 2021, and I am committed to making a difference in the lives of children and young adults with cognitive disabilities. When I was in high school, I lost both of my parents, who always emphasized the importance of staying in school and finding success in life. Their unwavering belief in me continues to drive my academic journey. With their memory in my heart, I have pushed through adversity and strived for excellence in my studies and career. Today, I’m fortunate to be preparing for my first-ever trip abroad—a two-week study abroad program in Belgium. This is a crucial part of my OT education, where I’ll be learning more about global healthcare and early intervention for children with developmental delays. Throughout my journey, I’ve dedicated myself to leadership and service. I serve as Vice President of the Student Occupational Therapy Association and have earned various scholarships, including the Lettie Pate Whitehead and Children of Deceased and Disabled Veterans scholarships. My experiences as a fieldwork student, graduate teaching assistant, and intern have shaped my desire to improve the lives of others through compassionate, evidence-based care. Your support will help me make the most of this study abroad opportunity, allowing me to further develop my skills and knowledge so that I can continue to give back to the communities I serve. Thank you for believing in me and helping me honor my parents’ wish for me to stay in school and succeed.
