Born and raised in Detroit, MI, Sha’Kiya Madison is an esteemed graduate of the illustrious Tuskegee University, holding a Bachelor of Animal Poultry and Veterinary Sciences. Impressively, Sha’Kiya managed to secure a plethora of academic, athletic and community activities scholarships, while working full-time in high school to pay for college. Sha ’Kiya’s grit and determination to make a difference in the environment through animals, drove her to reach her monetary goal for education. For 10 consecutive years, Sha’Kiya cheered for the Detroit Police Athletics League (Detroit-PAL), until the age of 15th, where she received the Gladys Hazel Award for good sportsmanship, involvement in the community, and good GPA. Succeeding her athletic she exchanged her upbeat cheer/dance moves for the melodic melodies and golf clubs in high school. Sha’Kiya later went on to becoming a member in the world- renowned Tuskegee University Golden Voices Concert Choir and an avid community service coordinator for the Delta Rho Sigma chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. Sha ‘Kiya’s professional career entails interning with agricultural and environmental awareness organizations. She has interned with the Savannah River Environmental Sciences Field Station in Aiken, South Carolina, where she constructed water filter devices using the xylem of loblolly pine to make water potable from surrounding bodies of water nearby the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions Site (SRS). She also participated internationally with other 1890 universities in the Experiential Learning Abroad: Immersion in Costa Rican Agriculture. Sha’ Kiya performed historical research at the Freedom Riders National Monument in Anniston, AL, in hopes to completely restore the interior of the Greyhound Bus Depot. She will not be studying abroad to Guatemala, to serve as a agricultural extension agent, teacher, and work closely with your community leaders to evaluate and meet the local needs of each community. This opportunity will enable her to not only immense in experience and engage in mentorship, but I will have the opportunity to learn about more endangered species. This will in turn aid in her graduate studies in the future.
