About Me

My name is Sophia Kahl and I am a senior at Carlsbad High School. I graduated this year in 2020. I am trying to raise money to be able to go to Australia through a Student Travel Program that does Community Service in different parts of the world. Since I can remember I have always been passionate about our environment. I grew up in Ohio and at nine years old I wrote a letter to the White House about our trees. When I received a letter back; I knew this is something I can do…help by making people aware of our environment. When I was in 5th grade and found out what Sea World does to make their money and never returned. Since then I have moved to Carlsbad, Ca. I started taking classes in Marine Biology and Environmental Science and fell in love with everything about the ocean. Our field trips to the ocean were exciting because I was learning what I can do to help. I believe that aquatic animals and sea mammals should be free and unobstructed by trash, plastic and debris that is harmful. I initiated my own campaign to never use straws and told everyone who I came in contact the same again, because our plastic ends up in our ocean. My favorite love are the sharks and know that they live in every ocean in the Planet and I want it to remain the same. What’s more, when I heard of the fires in Australia, it stirred a desire in me to go and help in any way I can. “Sharks are endangered as an exclusive result of human impacts and activities.” Says an article Called SEE THE WILD. I know that I want to dedicate my life helping those that do not have a voice. I would love to have the opportunity to help and I feel that a program where I can help and learn more about my passion will give me the tools to care on and help even further. For the past three years I have been working with special needs kids at my school. I love my special kids with my whole heart, they are the reason why I see the world in a new perspective. My special Ed kids are my whole world, they make me laugh, they are super silly and they all just have personalities like no other, they’ve given me so many fun memories. My parents have always in still to give back to our community and others. Can you help?
