About Me
Hey! My name is Zackary Mattingly. I am 21 years old, and I am from Central Kentucky. I am a proud Appalachian, culturally. I am studying Sociology at Berea College, where I work for my education. I love to read and draw, I am currently learning to speak French, and I am an apprentice carpenter! I am a Blue Collar worker at heart, with a white collar mindset. I have been working in various construction, carpentry, landscaping, mechanical jobs I can get ahold of since I was 15 years old. I have worked and fundraised 3 other trips this far. I have traveled to Greece and Italy through my high school, as well as Ireland through a similar program. My most recent trip has been the biggest experience thus far, as I spent 7 months in Morocco traveling, researching, and volunteering in various projects throughout Morocco. I believe that Social Science is pivotal in the current world as it is necessary to understand how society functions in order to make social changes, environmental changes, or governmental changes. I intend to use my experience from traveling and studying to join or start a program where I help invest, create, initiate, or rejuvenate humanitarian activist programs around Appalachia, and hopefully internationally.
